stuck and need help with openldap in ubuntu 10.10

Hi,

kernel version: 2.6.35-22-generic-pae
distro: ubuntu 10.10 minimal

can you help me setting up openLDAP on ubuntu 10.10. i'm currently 
following

stuck at the point loading the frontend module. i'm getting " ldap_bind: 
Invalid credentials (49)

Another question is, how or where do I check that my backend module (as 
referred in the guide above) is loaded correctly? is there a way for me 
to 'cat' the loaded backend.ldif?
How can I modify this? Should i use ldapmodify command? or is there a 
file I can edit with text editor and then restart the slapd service?

any assistance would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
