Asking this because there is an unresolved bug on slow boots from 
external drive grubs (I am experiencing this too). But since that is not 
the case with yours, I am also unable to help here. Pending disk 
failures will give extremely long boots, not just 50 secs boots.

You might want to write a bug report, perhaps the developers there can help.
