What version of Ubuntu to install on Thinkpad X220?

I am to believe that Lenovo, much like IBM (which well pretty much
Powers Lenovo) and Dell all use generic hardware that is known to be
compatible with Linux because of strategic partnerships.

In the last couple of years I've had no problems with either vendors
hardware supporting the latest versions of Ubuntu, sometimes there are
minor glitches but any amount of sense fixes those.
