One of the guys in the Ubuntu UK LoCo runs GNOME 3 from the PPA on
11.04. He told me that it was working last week. I've not tried it
myself hence "I understand" rather than "I know" :)

So I just took a snapshot on a clean Natty VM and installed from the
GNOME 3 PPA. It crapped out part way through the upgrade but was
massaged along with a "sudo apt-get -f install" here and a "sudo dpkg
--configure -a" there and finally a dash of "sudo apt-get install
gnome-shell".

Upon rebooting I got the new look logon screen, chose "Ubuntu GNOME
Shell Desktop" as the session, logged out, and back in with "Ubuntu"
as the session.

Things broken include a lack of appearance properties application,
global menu is broken and gnome-settings-deamon seems to be more
crashy than usual.

So in conclusion on 11.04 no, it's not working well :)

Sorry for getting your hopes up, I'll lart the person who told me it worked.

Cheers,
Al.
