I have /opt on a separate partition, and in each users home directory,
just link Pictures/ Audio/ Video/ Documents/ to the same directories
in /opt When you upgrade, just leave /opt out of it and later attach
that partition back, mounted as /opt
Using /media ...anything in that directory is not searched by locate.
