Interesting... there is generally more info regarding 'Disk /dev/sda:'
using that command.

Can you please download the bootinfo script from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/files/
and then:
$ sudo ./boot_info_script055.sh
You'll get a 'RESULTS.txt' file. Open that:

$ gedit RESULTS.txt

and then copy & paste the contents to:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/ and let us know what the url to the paste is.

Note: I'm not solving your problem, but trying to gather more info for
the folks working on it with you. Too many fingers in the issue just
create (IMO) added confusion...
