Goh,
Well, I'm at Grub ver 1.99, and the resolution in the Grub file was
changed. However, the boot screen is still black. I tried the trick
where I hold the Shift key, then the Esc key, but neither produced any
Grub display.
I would consider installing one more time, but I don't see what to do
different and any likely hood of success. In addition, I still don't
know how to tell it to check for Windows ME.
The graphics card and monitor are set to 1600x1200 and works well, so I
would think that just about any Grub resolution should work.
It is bed time for me, so perhaps you (and others) can think of
something to do either diagnostically (so I understand the actual
problem) or procedurally before I re-install and end up at the same
place.
Thank you so much for the help so far. I'm sure the problem can be
solved.
Dave,
