Cannot login after screen lock

Hello Experts,

Have been using Ubuntu for sometime and I am not sure what changed but
everytime I lock the PC it never allows me to login again.

I decided to do an upgrade now to Ubuntu 9.04. Ever since I did that it
would go straight to login screen and not allow me to login.

Using Cntrl + ALt + F1 I could get to the cli. But not sure what to do from
there to fix this.
