Yes, that true.  But, the word is that that is temporary.  Supposedly, 
plans are to discontinue the Gnome versions altogether.

I would have no complaints if Ubuntu continued on their pre-Unity 
course.  Ubuntu was, after all, the most popular of Linux distros, and 
with good reason.  I have a machine that will and did install Unity, as 
well as one that won't.  But frankly, it is no more useful to me than 
10.10 on my old box...it's a change without a difference that matters.
