use....
search -f /vmlinuz
or
search -f /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-24-generic
## {hope this is the right kernel?}
sorry, this ls /boot may be the legacy of the grub-legacy days.
anyway, don't let this get stuck on you...
try to see if you get anything from
cat (hd0,5)/etc/lsb-release
cat (hd0,3)/etc/lsb-release
cat (hd0,2)/etc/lsb-release
in this order... and use the right (hdo,x) for the configfile then.
