1: again, back up your data.
2: Please file a bug against the linux package
3: reboot your system and in the grub menu, pick an older kernel and
see if the problems go away (I would start with the kernel before the
one you're seeing problems with).

but by all means, please file a bug.  Kernel upgrades shouldn't cause
that issue, but I HAVE seen reports in the past where a kernel upgrade
b0rked ext4, which could well be what happened here.
