I've got a Photosmoart 4280, and everything works perfectly on 10.04 
without installing anything extra. It doesn't have a duplex unit, but I 
just wanted to share my good experience. :-)
I think HP's lead in this area is caused (at least partly) because they 
have to support their own devices on HP-UX anyway, so supporting Linux 
takes less effort for them than it does for Canon and Epson. But that's 
just a guess.
