If you've installed Ubuntu from the standard 11.04 Desktop image, you
should already have the WirelessConnection Manager installed, and all
the necessary software to get EC-156 working. All you have to do is to
ensure WirelessConnection Manager recognizes the dongle, and then
configure the connection parameters s.a. the username/password and
dial-string. If you google around, I think you'd find several
successful usages of EC-156.
