Video problems with Unity on older laptop

With client's new laptop:

Installed 10.10, recommended nvidia driver set. No issues.
Compiz, Emerald, all the bits and bobs. VLC and Totem (hate) and Xine
and MPlayer run like champs. Better than under Windows7. Openshot as
well.

Just stating the facts.
