Second that... seems quite likely to be a power-supply issue. Since
you are on a laptop, try to replace laptop adaptor ?
Do you have lot of peripherals attached, e.g. external HDD / optical
drive, external keyboard/mouse ?
Also do check the power adaptor cables... sometimes, once the
insulation wears away at places, there's a possibility of some
momentary short-circuits, though they are very minor for human eye to
see, they can cause enough pain for a laptop.
