You missed the point entirely.
It is an old saw "putting in my 2 cents worth" that dates from the
time when 2 cents was actually worth something.  In most major cities
it would buy a copy of the daily newspaper.  [think about how much in
information was contained in that single stack of newsprint in the era
before the internet, television, or even broadcast network radio for
an indication of what my opinion is actually worth]
The need to put in a $1US federal reserve note in order to equal the
purchasing power of 2 cents is a sad commentary of how the currency
has been inflated.
