Johnny,
It depends on the way the .pdf file is constructed. If the images are
embedded in the .pdf file it apparently is done either in line or else
separated. If they are embedded in-line, gimp sees the page with the
image as 1 image, else as a separate image.
I did it with a .pdf file that had the images separately introduced. I
did it with other .pdf-files and they gave me the same as you see: the
image of the page, not the image on the page separate from the rest.
Sorry, that I gave incomplete (and erroneous?) information.
