Request for, root password from add network printer, dialog???

This is how I understand the situation: If you add a printer, the system 
configuration changes. However only root or members of the lpadmin group 
may make those systemwide changes in the printer config files. Therefore 
you are asked for credentials. As you have sudo privileges, you are 
probably also a member of the lpadmin group and therefore you can use 
your own login to authorize the configuration changes.
