Someone suggesting turning off some features of the file system to try to
gain some speed. You might see some improvement, but at a cost of data loss.

Some laptops just aren't very fast. The specs on yours don't seem too bad,
but sometimes you can't always tell by the specs.

If you have a 5400 or 5900 rpm drive, you might do better with a 7200 rpm
drive. But 7200 rpm drives come with a cost of more heat and a shorter
battery life.

Many newer drives use 4k sectors which require a special alignment to run at
full speed. Basically, 'alignment' roughly translates into the first
partition starting on sector 2048.

Current versions of parted and gparted do this for you, so unless you
created the partitions by hand, the alignment should be correct.
