The newer versions of Skype are pulseaudio aware. If he cranks up
pavucontrol, starts the Skype session and checks the pavucontrol window
for input, he can select the mike he wants to use, set it's volume, and
pulse will remember that setting the next time he uses it. I agree,
check with alsamixer first, as pulse sits on top of alsa, but use pulse
after to maintain the settings he wants, per application. That is what I
had to do. Works like a charm. :) Ric
