You can't mount an audio CD because it doesn't have a file system. There 
are only raw data on the disk. You can only mount a real data CD and 
that's why you can't see anything at /media/cdrom. And the ~/.gvfs/cdda 
mount point you mentioned in the other mail is only simulating a file 
system. Anyway, I can't tell you why Rhythmbox is the only application 
that can play your audio CDs - sorry.
