Github push error

Perhaps i am asking a questions at wrong mailing list.But still i hope for
help
When i do a push using following command to github it gives the error as
following

      git push -u origin master

Error:

/usr/lib/git-core/git: 4: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")")
error: pack-objects died with strange error
