Sorry, Goku, I'm not on gnome (I'm on kde), somebody else please reply,  
but still I don't think that gnome-volume-manager is necessary. I think  
you may had installed other packages (for mount/devices etc) which cause a  
conflict.

Perhaps purging these 'other' packages may help followed by
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo dpkg --configure -a
update/upgrade
