It is natural for people to depict deities that resemble themselves. In 
the far east, buddha is depicted as a short bald potbellied grinning 
cheerful chinese looking chap but Siddharta (his real name) is actually 
a melancholy tall skinny full haired (curly) indian fella who had always 
insisted he was a mere mortal.
