Radeon Driver help

I am currently running version Ubuntu 9.10 with all updates applied. 
When I try to generate 3D graphics under Mathematica, I receive the 
following error message:

radeon_lock.c:65: radeonGetLock: Assertion `drawable != ((void *)0)' failed.

Google found the same message under FreeDesktop Bugzilla – Bug 22851 at:

The status is "Resolved Fixed", with a modification date of 2009-11-25.

Since I am still receiving this error, is there any advice as to how to 
incorporate the fix, or reason why it is not incorporated?
