Thanx for the input. But, as I said, I've loaded files on this server before. I solved it by using sudo su to login on a terminal directly on the sever using crtl alt F1. Then I used passwd as root to change the root passwd. IDK why I had to do that as there was already a root passwd. But, now I can login via ssh remotely and copy files from my old server to the new one. Sorry for such a silly question!

vsftpd? On default setting any write command is not enabled, you must
set write enable on config file..
