Odd Firefox behavior

I have set up an Apache instance behind a NAT'd firewall that cannot be
accessed from outside (the port is blocked). To allow me to access this I
wront a tiny shell script that ssh's to the machine inside the friewall,
and runs a shell script on that end that looks like this:
firefox -no-remote &
Obviously I have ssh X11 fowarding on on the remote and local machines.
Works great.
But, this morning, when I tried to start Firefox on the outside machine
(with the toolbar icon), instead of what I expected, I got the remote
session. How can this be?
