10.10 not recognizing dvd player

Using KDE on top of Ubuntu, I had that problem, or one similar to it. I
had to add a "system tray" to the panel for the announces to pop up on.
Otherwise I received no announce of the insertion of the CD/DVD asking
me what to do with it. Now, I do.
