You have to install "System Tray" from the apps for the panel with KDE.
Then there will be an app that will display system announcements. Just
left click on the panel and click on "add widgets". Then select "System
Tray" to install it to your panel. Surprising it isn't installed by
default, at least with 10.4 Ric
