Unable to use USB on at91sam7s-ek

Dear List,

I've tried to compile and run the
usb-device-cdc-serial-project-at91sam7s-ek. I'm using the codesourcery
toolchain and the sam-ba programming tool. The compilation and flash
procedures go well. However, there are some problems when I try to connect
and communicate with the board.

I made some modifications to the source, i added the following piece of code
before the last two ifstatements:

        usbBuffer[0] = 0x01234567;
        usbBuffer[1] = 0x09876543;

        CDCDSerialDriver_Write(usbBuffer, DATABUFFERSIZE, 0, 0);

I disabled the cdc_acm driver (blacklist and rmmod).

I am:
uname -a
Linux USSR 2.6.37-02063701-generic #201102181135 SMP Fri Feb 18 12:47:22 UTC
2011 i686 GNU/Linux (I use the 37 kernel because of the sam-ba driver).

dmesg says the following:
[ 5845.748085] usb 6-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address
25

lsusb says the following:

I would like to be able to set up some communication with the board, but I'm
a bit out of clues. Google isn't very helpful either. Any links to working
tutorials or own experiences are most welcome. Also, of course, if you've
troubles setting up the toolchain: let me know.

I'm also not entirely sure whether this list is the correct place for my
question.

Best regards,
Bas Jacobs
