I've just switched to my old Toshiba Satellite. It has a US type
keyboard with no AltGr button so I can't do the above with it.

What you could do is just open the character map, select the common
script, and there near the top.

Or try this:-
Hold down Ctrl+Shift
type U40
Release Ctrl+Shift
