Trouble in Upgrade

I had Ubuntu9.04 installed on a winxp partition. I upgraded to  Ubuntu 10.10 and 
post installation I was prompted to reboot. Upon boot I  have a black screen 
with the following

error: no such device:  9f5f4016-f31a-4af6-852f-4502712a528f.
grub rescue>

I can't go anywhere from there
