I'd argue that there aren't any guides - you become experienced,
knowledgable and informed by doing rather than reading about doing.

Go and do some of the things Sandy suggested. Get to the stage where
building a protected, secure, highly automated server is trivial.

Once you got that kind of thing licked you're well on the way.
