My feeling is that if there is a problem with off-topic postings, it's
not that people keep talking about Ubuntu-derived distros :)

Personally, I'd welcome anything where the answers might help a Ubuntu
user searching the archives, so if it's about some part of $distro that
is identical to Ubuntu (the part being identical, not the distro), I'd
have no personal opposition to it being here.

But I'm not everybody - I'd welcome off-list opinions in either
direction and I'll tailor my gentle prodding back onto topic to suit
(and, obviously, share the mailings with the other moderators). 

I always find the irony of a massive thread about what precisely
constitutes off-topic somewhat painful. :)
