    Have done that twice already. Also tracked down any GIMP related 
files and erased them. It's starting to look like it might be a GTK 
problem..as control-o works...but clicking file/open usually doesn't.

I should mention this is all happening on IceWm...I'll give it a try 
under Gnome.
