The original construction was quite correct -- no need to change it.
NoOp used *their* as a singular gender neutral pronoun, which is common
and correct usage and dates back to at least the 14th century.
I.e.
"Could the person who decided to reboot the server during the lunch
break please announce themselves at the sys admin's office ASAP."
Or: "I do not decide for the user! It is they who decide what is
installed, of course."
'They' in singular is more graceful than the clumsy 'he or she'
construction, which appears to be a rather recent (American?) invention.
