There's always Inbox.com and GMX, but neither one has a very good
reputation. With free services, IMAP is always an afterthought, as you
can't make much money with it without the user actually paying.
Why don't you just give in and sign up for an inexpensive, real IMAP
provider? Even something like EuMX might suffice.
Then there's of course the large French freebie service "La Poste" that
offers also IMAP. I've heard people having good experience with it.
