running Ubuntu off USB stick and retaining settings?

Confirmed, I have a 32GB USB stick which contains a full Ubuntu
install. I can plug that into most computers and it just works.

One word of warning. During the install, make double sure you are
installing grub onto the USB stick, and not your internal hard disk.
This has caused some users issues in the past, especially on 10.10
where the grub selection dialog is hidden behind an advanced button.
It's more obvious in 11.04.
