permissions issue I think , is a problem again

Might be a shot in the dark, but some file systems will mount read only if
there's a problem. Read the drive's SMART data, and look for reallocated
sectors or current pending sectors or offline uncorrectable.

I run 'sudo nautilus' all the time, and there should be no permissions you
cannot change that way.
