How does "non-technical support" differ from "chit-chat"? I think that 
technical should be kept separate from non-technical, with non-technical 
shunted over to bikeshed. While I agree that criticism of Unity was 
never far from the motives of those who shut down sounder, the 
mean-spirited personal attacks and extraneous political discussion were 
fair game for some kind of discipline.
