Gwibber causes lag - bug or feature?

Gwibber built in, is pretty awesome, it does what I need it to do in the
background on it's own. But it starts to lag, and it's db size goes out
of control.

Is there a way to trim this DB? When I remove it, my desktop experience
is all good again. Does anyone else experience this, and is there a fix?
