Explain to me again why Unity is so great...

It sure is. But "pretty" is something I care about for 30 seconds.
After that, I stop looking at it and start using it. Nobody cares about a 
pretty hammer, right?

And while Unity might not be that bad for a first effort, it still has a 
long way to go before it catches up with Gnome 3. Which makes me wonder 
why Canonical dropped the Gnome Shell, just to replace it with something 
that seems to be inferior.
