Put your Ubuntu in Bridged mode; reboot it; take note of it's IP address
and netmask (ifconfig eth0 or something);
take note of the IP address and netmask of the windows machine;
they should have equal netmasks and the IP addresses should.
use ping to make sure they can reach each other
