Not sure if this is related to Ubuntu specifically, but I found that
using SeaMonkey/FireFox/Chromium to play pandora.com (I use pulseaudio
from a standalone machine to stream it over to a system with speakers)
was sucking up all of the cpu on the machine.
Finally figured out that the process that is the culprit is
'plugin-container'. Watching in 'top' I found that 'plugin-container'
(flash related) was eating the cpu. I opened 'System Monitor' and set
'plugin-container' to a 'Nice' value of 14 and all of sudden I have most
of my cpu back. 'plugin-container' ($ top and $ ps e will show you them)
is still taking up 25% but that's considerably better than 80-90%.
Now I just need work on keeping 'plugin-container' to a nice 'Nice'
value permanently.
