Just to get to Vista (for now) and from your message, I assume it is on 
grub-legacy; at grub prompt,
root (hd0,x)
chainload +1
boot

where (hd0,x) is /dev/sda(x+1)
so if Vista is at sda1, it should be (hd0,0).
