Ubuntu does not use inittab anymore. Upstart replaces that.

So you cannot add '3' or '2' to the kernel (linux) line at grub to boot
to the runlevel. However, if you just want to get to console instead of
gui, Alt + + Ctl + Fx and Alt + F7 to return or just use the recovery
console.
But why?
