Sorry, I lost the original email where I was to post OnDisk's repsonse
as to the content of their DVD, but here it is:
---------------------------------------------------
Rickey, the info from Ubuntu which we have posted is:
/The difference between the DVD and CD is that the DVD also contains
additional software from the "main" repository that can be installed
from the Disc. The exact same software is available over an Internet
connection after installing from the CD./
To my understanding the additional software contains the KDE, and XFCE
desktops along with other commonly used desktop software.
---------------------------------------------------
When I installed Ubuntu, I later installed KDE. And, it installed from
the DVD. Just about all the little things needed to completely install
KDE was there, without taxing my download limits via HughesNet. Again,
if anyone is on a metered or slow service, the DVD is really a good
option. I kept the DVD enabled during the first month after the install
using synaptic and it repeatedly found the extra packages I found I
needed, without going to the net. For the few bucks it cost, it was well
worth it. Plus, if I ham-fisted the install, I could re-install without
much pain.
They're offering a 9 DVD complete 10.4.1 repo set for around $50. For
slow or no connection, this is good. I'm sure that the other disk
distributors are good, too. Ric
