Canonical Ubuntu splits from GNOME over design issues

I'd worry about the desktop being on top of something lame more than the
actual desktop itself. Plenty folks are doing productive things with the
windows desktop. So, for our non-profit, I installed Ubuntu and then
added KDE on top of it, so they wouldn't get weirded out. First comment
when they saw Gnome was "What the hell is this?" FUD clearly evident all
round. 

Hey, I have to win their hearts and minds first... so I said, "Here try
this (KDE) ...it looks like Windows 95!" A collect sigh of relief was
heard. Then I got to do the "Sermon On The /mnt" about having
choices.  :) Ric
