Install of Ubuntu freezes

If it was any of your business he/she would have clearly told you.  Try
downloading and running the alternate CD.  It was built for older
computers and still uses the upstream installer.  If you really want to
"try before you buy" press F6 and do:

nolapic
acpi=off
noapic
