Told you.

Unless you really know what you are doing, which you probably don't, the 
best solution is to either get a second-hand CRT replacement[1] or get 
an LCD widescreen.

For whatever this advice is worth, all my LCDs are VIEWSONICS. Go for 
the VX2433 (or later).

[1] As you know, CRTs are only a TV set without the receiver. Perhaps 
you have a local TV serviceman who will restore your Dell to a working unit?
